Who Should Apply
The workshop is for health and medical journalists interested in enhancing their skills in reporting on medical research. We are looking for a broad spectrum of applicants to attend the conference. To that end, we encourage all individuals to apply. If you are a media outlet wishing to submit several applications, please prioritize them so we can do our best to accommodate you, space permitting.
I do not work in health/science journalism, but hope to move into the field – Should I apply?
Priority is given to journalists currently working on health and medicine topics. However, experience in covering health and science is not a prerequisite so you are welcome to apply.
Do you accept students?
Graduate and undergraduate students preparing for a career in health/science journalism are welcome to apply, and we hope to accept selected students, especially those with prior work experience. Priority for the limited number of seats will be given to journalists currently working in the field.
When are applications due?
The deadline to apply is July 24, 2026 to get the hotel discount. Space is limited, so please apply soon! If all slots are filled your name will be placed on a waiting list.
Confirming your participation
Once you receive your acceptance, you will have 3 calendar days to confirm attendance. After that time, open slots will be offered to waitlisted applicants.
What if I can only attend part of the course?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications for part time participants.
Where will the workshop be held?
The course sessions will be held on campus at Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH). This is a short walk from the hotel.
What are the attendance costs to me or my employer?
While there is no fee for attending, accepted applicants are expected to cover all travel and per diem expenses, including local transportation, meals and incidentals.
And thanks to generous support from Arnold Ventures and a gift from Dartmouth College, Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, we will cover all lodging expenses.
Dinner will be provided (free except drinks) on Tuesday August 25, at a great local restaurant. We will provide transporation (free). There will be an after dinner keynote talk/panel: Real world impacts of HHS’s changing approach to vaccines, featuring. Jesse Goodman, Past Director, CBER [FDA] and Fiona Havers, Past Senior Adviser on Vaccine Policy: [CDC], moderated by Lizzy Lawrence (STAT News)

Where can I make a reservation for lodging?
Accepted applicants should reserve a room for 4 nights (Sunday night August 23, 2026 check in – Thursday August 27 departure) at the Six South Hotel, 6 South Street, Hanover, NH 03755, https://sixsouth.com/ (Tel. (603) 643.0600). The hotel is a short (15 min) walk* from the venue.
*Please let us know if there any mobility requirements or accommodations you’d like us to be aware of.
If you call the hotel, please tell the reservationist that you are with the group “Steven Woloshin Group”. The room hold will be lifted on Friday, July 24, 2025. After that time, we cannot guarantee room availability or coverage for lodging.
NOTE: Hotel costs are covered.
Thanks to generous support from Arnold Ventures and a gift from Dartmouth College, Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, all lodging expenses will be covered including the room and tax, breakfast and wifi, but not other food or parking. Disregard any room prices on the website. This offer is only good for lodging at the 6 South Hotel and only until July 24, 2026.

If I attend, will I receive some kind of official credit?
People who complete the course will receive a certificate of participation, but the certificate is not associated with any official credentialing body.
